Long, long ago, there lived in the kingdom of Golconda, a young prince, Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah. He was in love with Bhagmati, a beautiful Hindu court dancer, who lived in the village Chenchulam, separated from Golconda by the River Musi. So deep was his love for her, that he once swam across the flood waters of the overflowing Musi to keep his rendezvous with her! On hearing of this, his father Ibrahim Qutb Shah built a bridge across the river so that his son didn’t have to risk his life ever again. The bridge still exists, and is called the Purana Pul.
